As an award-winning watercolor and acrylic artist. Monty Whitfield incorporates his love of ancient culture with elements of nature. The result is an intricate fusion of fine detail and character, striking colors and subject matter, immediately drawing the viewer into Whitfield’s world.
Now a resident of southern New Hampshire, the influence of Whitfield’s childhood in New York City
is evident in his work. His creativity and love of art were nurtured throughout his youth by his
parents, both of whom were successful artists themselves. Captivated by the work of his parents, Whitfield found further inspiration in the beautiful coffee table art books that graced his family
home. His interest not only in art, but in ancient cultures and their role in art, increased with each
visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. By age eleven, Whitfield put away his markers and paper
and moved on to acrylics. Watercolors became a passion during his teen years, a passion which still
encompasses him today.
Whitfield studied at the Durer School of Art in Manila, Philippines, expanding his portfolio through
new mediums, but always returning to the watercolors and acrylics that his work is best known for.
A juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association, Whitfield is affiliated with the National Watercolor Society in Peterborough, New Hampshire and the Sharon Arts Center. His painting, “Golden Eagle,” is in the permanent
collection of Nashua City Hall in New Hampshire and his award-winning paintings are featured in
galleries throughout the Northeast. |
